Maternity Photography Session in Campbell River BC
McKenzie reached out to me in the fall looking for some family and maternity photography! Fall is her family’s favourite season, so of course we had to do them then. Because she was showing very early in her pregnancy, we were able to book this maternity photoshoot at around 20 weeks. Likewise, during her last pregnancy, she had photos done around 32 weeks and found it was way too uncomfortable during that time – which is very common. That’s why it’s nice to book a photographer that can be accommodating to your dates and preferences.
My goal during this session was to capture this precious time in this family’s life. Their last few months focused on the three of them together. I want them to be able to cherish this time in their lives for the next 50+ years.
When Should I Book A Maternity Photography Session?
I recommend booking a maternity photography session anytime in the third trimester around 26 – 34 weeks. If you are showing early, I recommend early so you are the most comfortable moving around and in the way you look! I think new moms are stunning at all times of their pregnancy, but I understand sometimes it might not feel that way for people.
Again, 26 – 34 weeks works great! I sometimes have maternity photography clients pushing the limits so they can get the ultimate baby bump to show in the photos. Because of this, I try extra hard to be flexible with my availability.

Maternity Photography Session Outfit Ideas
Clients always reach out asking what to wear, and I am so happy to help. Personally I love flowy dresses for maternity photoshoots. It’s nice when the dress can give you a flattering silhouette look, while also leaving you feeling comfortable.
I always tell clients to avoid patterns (or just intense patterns) and focus on natural earthy tones in their outfits. This makes it a lot easier to match with the rest of the family for the maternity photography session.
These 3 did the perfect job of picking out nice outfits. They stuck with earthy simple tones such as blues, greys, and whites! I love the touch of colour with the pink shawl. It’s so nice to incorporate some kind of flowy item in the photoshoot.
