A generational photoshoot is a beautiful way to capture the love and connection between family members of different ages. Whether you’re planning a photoshoot for a special occasion or just want to create lasting memories, I promise it will be well worth it. I recently captured these beautiful generational photos and it was so special getting to capture 3 generations of women in this family!
3 Reasons Why Generational Photos are Important
1. They Capture Passing Time
Generational photos are important because they capture the essence of family and the passing of time. They allow us to see the similarities and differences between family members of different ages and to appreciate the connections that bind us together. Getting to show these photos to your future kids or grandkids is something so special. Especially if you have a grandparent who is getting older, take this opportunity to capture these special memories now!

2. They get the family together!
With everyone’s hectic lives, it can be hard nowadays to get everyone together. But, a photoshoot is often a great way to get family together while also capturing some amazing memories.

3. High quality photos that you will be able to look back on years from now
So much changes over the years and you will truly not regret having high quality generational photos to look back on years from now. Life is short and can be unpredictable so you never know when your last chance for a generational photoshoot might be. So don’t put off. Plan it now and I promise it will be well worth it!

3 Tips on how to capture the Perfect Generational Photos
1. Location
Start by choosing a location that is meaningful to your family, such as a family home or a favorite park. If you choose to do it at an outdoor location, make sure to consider the time of year and weather. Here on Vancouver Island, late spring, summer, and fall are typically the best months weather wise for photoshoots.
2. What to Wear
Coordinate outfits that complement each other without being too matchy-matchy. I find it best to stick with neutral colors like white, brown, cream, and dark blues. It is also best to avoid anything with prints or that is distracting. We want to make sure that YOU are the focus of the photos not your outfits!
3. Hire a Professional Photographer
Hiring a professional photographer can make the biggest difference in how your photos turn out. Not only will the quality be 1000 times better but as a photographer I also know how to make the photos more candid and raw. I want to capture you laughing and loving one another and truly enjoying the moment. A professional photographer will give you prompts to encourage movement which is ideal for the best photos.

Vancouver Island Family Photographer
Hey, if you’re new here, I’m Hayley, a Vancouver Island Family Photographer!
I don’t have to tell you that life goes by quickly. Before you know it, your kids are moving out of the house starting their own lives.
Children go through so many stages, and these can change year to year, even week to week. One week they are quiet, patient, and love wearing the colour blue – the next moment they are loud, independent, cheeky, and only want to draw.
You must be excited to hire a Family Photographer that has you covered to capture these moments.
As a parent, these moments go by in the blink of an eye. I want to help document your family how you are this year and give you memories that last forever.
As a family photographer, my shoots are more of an experience, where you can enjoy downtime with your family away from the hustle and bustle of life.
