There is something timeless about golden hour—especially when you pair it with the ocean breeze, soft sand underfoot, and two people wildly in love. As a Victoria BC engagement photographer, these are the sessions that light me up. This particular evening was no exception.

A Golden Hour Date Night at the Beach

When I met this couple, it was clear they felt most at home in nature. So, naturally, we planned their engagement session around the beach—a place where they could laugh, move, and feel fully like themselves.

They wanted their session to feel like a little date night, and that’s exactly what we created. We walked along the shoreline as the sun dipped lower and lower, eventually giving way to one of the dreamiest sunsets I’ve ever seen. The cotton candy skies—soft pinks, oranges, and purples—painted the perfect backdrop for their photos.

And if that wasn’t magical enough? The moon came out right after, giving us a few truly intimate, cinematic images that feel straight out of a movie.

Helping You Feel Comfortable in Front of the Camera

One of the things I love most about being an engagement photographer in Victoria BC is helping couples ease into the session. It’s totally normal to feel nervous—especially if one of you isn’t super used to having your photo taken.

During this session, he admitted he was a little camera shy. But with the right prompts, movement, and plenty of breaks to just breathe and enjoy the moment, the nerves melted away. The result? Beautifully connected, real photos that captured their relationship exactly as it is.

I use a mix of gentle direction and candid prompting—getting you to talk, laugh, run barefoot along the shoreline, or whisper something silly to your partner. That’s when the magic happens.

The Power of Sunset & Moonrise in Beach Engagement Photography

Golden hour is already incredible, but one of my favorite moments happens just after the sun dips below the horizon. Those few minutes of pastel skies, soft light, and shifting tones give us an extra layer of emotion in your images.

In this session, we stayed a little longer to capture that transition—and the result was stunning. The moon peeked above the waterline just as they were cuddled up, creating an ethereal feel to the last few frames. These small, unscripted moments often end up being couples’ favorites.
