Unique Wedding Day Ideas: Food & Snack Ideas to Keep Your Guests Happy & Fed

We’ve all attended Wedding Days where the food is either late, has too small of portions, short-lived, or there just isn’t enough for everyone. There’s got to be a better way, right? Absolutely! After photographing a variety of wedding days in 2021, I saw so many unique Wedding Day Ideas with regards to food and snack trends that the guests loved, and I wanted to share that with you!

When you are planning a Wedding, it is important to keep yourself and your guests fed! (Or else the drinks might hit a little too hard). Wedding days can be really long, and of course people get hungry! I have seen a lot of unique food and snack ideas at Weddings last year that I loved. I highly recommend any of these ideas because it allows you to keep your guests happy and fed with simple snack ideas.

I could go on about this stuff forever because, well I just love food. I want to share tips about food for you and your wedding party, your guests, and what food should come out during different times of your wedding day! Hope this helps.

WEDDING DAY FOOD TIP #1:

MAKE SURE TO EAT WHILE YOU GET READY

When getting ready, it’s SO important to start eating snacks or have a solid meal. This is the calm, relaxing time of the day when you actually have time to eat. Essentially, once you are done getting ready and the wedding day starts, everyone forgets to eat because it is go-go-go. There is almost no time to eat when the wedding couple and the wedding party are busy with the ceremony, photos, visiting guests, and more.

I highly recommend a snack tray, charcuterie board, sandwiches, or something along those lines during the morning and getting ready time.

WEDDING FOOD TIP #2:

FEED YOUR WEDDING PARTY DURING GROUP PHOTOS

After the Wedding Ceremony, your Wedding Photographer will take you and your Wedding Party for photos! These Wedding Party Photos can take anywhere between 30 – 90 minutes depending on your location and your who your photographer is.

When I work with clients, I highly encourage them to have a cooler packed with some of their favourite drinks and snacks to bring to the Wedding Party Photo time. This way, when we start taking group photos of just the bridal party, the groomsmen can hangout and replenish – and vice versa.

Likewise, we can also incoporate the food and drinks in the images. Some ideas include a group champagne pop, a group shotgun, shots, pizza, crackers and cheese, you name it, I’ve seen it all.

Whatever is special to your friendgroup, feel free to bring it. For example, my friends and I used ot always have Timbits at our gatherings so when I have my wedding, I plan on getting a huge box of Timbits for us to share.

WEDDING FOOD TIP #3:

FEED YOUR GUESTS THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Like I said before, once the Wedding Ceremony is done, the Wedding Photographer will take the whole party away for some photos! While the newlyweds and wedding party are off taking photos with the Wedding Photographer, usually the guests enjoy a cocktail hour with the family and other friends.

I’m assuming you want your guests to enjoy themselves during this time! It’s great when people have music, games, cocktail hour, drink, and much more to keep entertained while you’re away taking photos. One element of this ‘entertainment’ comes in the form of food and drinks! Why not have some snacks for your guests to enjoy during this time?

There are a variety of unique wedding ideas when it comes to snacks and drinks for your guests leading up to the reception. Here are my favourites!

DONUT WALL (ALWAYS A HIT)

I have to say, out of all the snack ideas on your Wedding Day, I personally LOVED the donut wall. If you have kids at your wedding, this is a perfect snack for them as well. I’ve come to realize that Donuts and Timbits are delicious for any occasion but especially a wedding. They aren’t messy, you can grab and go with them, and it’s not often you can find a truly delicious donut.

SHOT GLASS SEATING CARDS

How often do you see an ‘edible’ Wedding Seating Chart? What a fun way to get the party started. I love these ‘Shot Glass’ Seating Charts – usually done with Tequila or Fireball from what I’ve witnessed.

This is definitely a memorable addition to your wedding decorations and wedding planning.

POPCORN OR KETTLECORN

This is also a great option to grab & go. Your guests can enjoy some popcorn before dinner, during, or take some home for a delicious late-night snack. This Wedding Snack Idea is very affordable and who doesn’t love popcorn?

CUPCAKES > CAKE

Wedding Cupcakes are an easier and more successful option over a Wedding Cake. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have cake, especially if that’s something you love! I know cake cutting at your wedding is a great tradition. I recommend keeping the cake simple, and bringing cupcakes alongside the cake.

At every wedding I have attending that had Wedding Cupcakes, they didn’t last very long at all. It’s a much easier way to give everyone dessert.
